If there’s one thing I’ve learned after decades in the home theater, automation, and audio/video world, it’s this: great systems aren’t about how much you spend. They’re about how well they’re designed, installed, and supported.
My journey in this industry started long before streaming, 4K projectors, or smart home AI Richardson TX existed. It began in the late ’80s and early ’90s, in a garage in Northwest Arkansas, building car audio systems for myself and for friends. Back then, it wasn’t about chasing the biggest sale , it was simply about doing things the right way, learning, improving, and making something sound incredible.
Little did I know that this passion would turn into a lifelong career serving North Texas homeowners with Dallas home theater audio video solutions.
From Car Audio to Home Theater: A Career Built on Real Experience
I grew up working with my father and brother in construction. That experience gave me something many home theater installer Dallas professionals never get: a deep understanding of how homes are actually built.
I learned where wires can go, where they can’t go, how structures work, and what it takes to make a system that blends into a home instead of fighting against it. That construction background? It’s been gold for every home theater installation Dallas TX project I’ve tackled.
After the construction chapter ended, I moved into car audio professionally and eventually made my way to North Texas. I joined Car Toys in Frisco as the assistant install manager , and that’s where everything shifted toward what would become my specialty in home automation Frisco TX.
One day, while I was working in the bay, Dan Olsen from Ultimate Electronics stopped in. He saw something in me, and that moment changed my life. I accepted a position as Installation Manager for their new Frisco store, and soon I was helping build out other locations across the Dallas area.
This was the early 2000s , the golden age of Dallas home theater. Flat panels were new. Big systems were going mainstream. Homeowners wanted theater rooms, whole-home audio, video distribution, and automation for the first time ever.
From 2002 to 2005, Ultimate Electronics shaped my approach to installation, service, and customer experience. After Ultimate, I joined Best Buy as they launched Magnolia into their stores. Then in 2008, I took the leap and launched 21st Century Audio Video.
Seventeen years later, I’m still here , serving the people of North Texas, building systems that last, and treating every client like they’re the only one.
What Most Homeowners Get Wrong About Home Theater Setup Dallas
A lot of people believe home theaters Dallas and automation systems must be expensive to be good.
They don’t.
You can get amazing surround sound Richardson TX results without buying all new equipment. In fact, many of my clients have heard me say this:
“Use your older equipment until it quits.”
I don’t push gear for the sake of pushing gear. I don’t upsell. I don’t complicate systems so they look more impressive on paper.
I design systems that fit your space, your life, your goals, your budget , and yes, your existing equipment. A great home theater isn’t about status. A great AI home automation Dallas setup isn’t about showing off. A great outdoor system isn’t about being the loudest on the block.
It’s about getting the right results for the right reasons. That’s how you get solutions that perform beautifully: and stand the test of time.

The Brands I Trust (And Why)
After 30+ years of home theater install Dallas projects, I’ve learned which brands perform, which ones last, and which ones make my customers happiest.
Automation: URC delivers reliable, scalable, and flexible control. It’s a solid choice for AI home theater DFW systems both large and small. We can start with a compact, simple setup and scale it as your needs grow.
Receivers & Processing: Denon and Marantz have delivered great quality and proven performance over the years. They’re workhorses that sound good and hold up, but I’m always willing to spec other solutions when they’re a better fit.
Speakers: Every home, room, and listener is different, so systems are always designed around preference and budget. My go-to brands include:
- SVS Sound
- Origin Acoustics
- Martin Logan
- KEF
- Klipsch
- Episode
Outdoor Speakers: For outdoor audio, durability and performance both matter. Origin Acoustics, Episode, Sonance, and Klipsch consistently deliver results that withstand North Texas weather.
Networking: A modern home lives or dies by its network. Our backbone typically relies on Luxul, Araknis, and Eero, plus supporting products that keep everything stable and responsive.
A Project I’m Especially Proud Of
I’ve been part of hundreds of installations over the years, but one that stands out is the work I did for a client named John Traver.
When I first met John, he was at the beginning of a major home remodel. The home had wiring from when it was originally built, but much of it was outdated or in the wrong locations for the new layout. We needed to rethink and rebuild everything from the ground up.
So we did.
We reimagined the entire infrastructure:
- Rewired the home from end to end
- Created four dedicated equipment hub locations
- Designed full audio distribution across nearly 30 zones
- Built a complete video distribution system
- Automated it all through URC for seamless control
It was a massive project : the kind that requires patience, planning, and craftsmanship at every step.
But the best part wasn’t the technology. Over the years, John has become more than a client. He’s become a great friend and mentor, someone whose insight, kindness, and support have played a meaningful role in my life and in my business.
Why I Still Love This Work
I’ve been doing this for a long time. Long enough to see technologies come and go. Long enough to understand that what people really want isn’t “gear.”
They want simplicity, reliability, comfort, entertainment, memories with family, and a home that just works.
That’s why I stay dedicated to every project : not just during the installation, but long after the job is done. My clients know they can call me anytime, anywhere. That’s not marketing. It’s how I operate.
After more than 30 years, I’m still here because I love seeing technology enhance people’s lives. Whether it’s a movie night with family, a backyard party with great music, or the simplicity of a home that responds quietly in the background : this work matters.
