Essential Elements of an Outdoor Entertainment System

Turn Your Backyard into a Movie Oasis

Essential Elements of an Outdoor Entertainment System

Sometimes it seems like spring was never here at all. Before you know it, the warm summer air will roll through your Frisco, Texas property like a tidal wave.

But there’s no need to fret; it’s time to get out and enjoy your backyard again. Especially if you have an outdoor entertainment system to call your own.

Of course, not all outdoor theaters are created equal. In fact, customization is part of the fun. But there are still essential elements that you’ll want in any outdoor space.

If you want to learn how to craft the ultimate outdoor theater, this is where to start. Ready to learn more? Just keep reading.

Video Display

What’s a home theater without a video display? In fact, your display is one of the most important elements of your outdoor entertainment system.

But today, there are plenty of options you can choose from when defining your backyard entertainment space. Here, we’ve listed a few of our favorites:

Front-Projector: The traditional “movie theater” setup. Projector sits behind the viewer and fires toward a screen in front. The screen reflects the light from the projector, thereby creating the image. Perfect for very low-lighting situations but not capable of contenting with brighter spaces.

Rear-Projector: For the homeowner who wants the traditional movie feel without ambient light washing out your images. Rear-projectors sit behind a specially made screen and filter light through to create an image. The picture is brighter and more robust, making it perfect for outdoor applications. Be aware, though, that these setups typically require a bit more space.

Outdoor TV: An outdoor TV is a popular option for many homeowners. While not a traditional setup, outdoor TVs are durable, ultra-bright and easy to view just about any time, day or night. Plus, modern units come in sizes up to 80 inches, so you won’t miss anything on a smaller screen.

Outdoor Sound System

When building an outdoor audio system, it’s important to know what kind of sound you’ll get. Outdoor systems operate slightly differently than indoor systems, as they don’t have any walls to reflect audio off of.

While some homeowners may be satisfied with wall-mounted or centralized, omnidirectional speakers, cinephiles will likely appreciate an outdoor surround sound system.

Satellite speakers placed throughout your yard, hidden within foliage and spaced for even coverage are a great way to mimic the effect of an indoor surround sound system. A buried subwoofer can provide the deep bass rumble that enlivens movie soundtracks.

That way, your movies will sound as good as they look.
